Weve Researched Fiverr WordPress Customizations; See if Theyre Worth It

Who would need Fiverr WordPress customizations anyway? you ask. Well, consider this scenario; youve got yourself a new premium WordPress theme, youve been expecting some help from the support department, but apparently, Support Happiness or whatever the name they chose for their support department does NOT include the real hands-on help you need.I mean, however beautiful and customizable the theme is, there is that one thing youd like to have, which the theme doesnt support. When you reach out to the theme developers to get it, they politely explain that Support doesnt cover for custom work. Its like they dont want to get their hands dirty, right?Okay, its not exactly like that. Not offering custom tweaks is actually a basic procedure. It doesnt pay to have customer support doing tweaks. We have to be reasonable. The theme doesnt come with custom aid, just as your next car doesnt come with all the colors available, it just comes with one.And themes are just one aspect. If you alread y have your site online, there are other things that might not work properly: load speed, SEO performance, various plugins. These might be tricky sometimes. Even if youre perfectly qualified, you might not always want to go into debugging mode. tons of tutorials online and also videos that teach you how to change myriads of things. But youll need lots of time to carry this through. If youre not that relentless in doing the thing yourself, the one alternative you could and should try is to find someone else to do it for you. Here comes in Fiverr to do the trick. Lets see how and why Fiverr WordPress customizations can be a good idea:Popular Fiverr WordPress customizations and gigsAn important fact about Fiverr gigs is that they cover lots of WordPress-related matters. This means that almost any changes you might want to do to your WordPress site can be solved by freelancers at Fiverr.Lets review some of the most popular Fiverr WordPress customizations and fixes; categorized:Bug fixi ng, debuggingFixing issues with responsive designSlider issuesGallery issuesFixing broken/blank white WordPress sitesFixing WordPress login problemsBackground image doesnt scaleSlow loading/cache issuesFixing cross-browser/mobile compatibility issuesRemoving dead linksCustomization, CSS HTML tweaksColor customizationModifying the logo sizeCustomizing various on-site buttonsChanging the copyright noticeModifying page widthModifying slider timingAdding videos instead of images to slidersChanging the size of the featured imagesAdding newsletter signup formsAdding contact formsAdding widgets to sidebarMiscellaneousInstalling WordPressMoving your site to another hostInstalling themesAdding Google AnalyticsDomain integrationBacking up your site (you need to purchase the backup service)404 to 301 redirectsHow to search for suitable gigsThese were just some of the most popular WordPress-related gigs that can be done on Fiverr. But of course, there are other things that WordPress developers could help out with.Once youve clarified what you need, its time to head over to Fiverr and find the best seller who can deliver the thing. But heres the trick: the usual search by keyword mechanism will not always show you what you want. Let me explain:Say youre looking to customize your sites header. Searching for customize WordPress header will not return any gigs with this exact offer. And this happens for the rest of the above list as well. These Fiverr WordPress customizations are not all listed as such on Fiverr. Sounds weird but please bear with me.The way to go is to actually search for broader terms, gigs that will include your specific request, but not necessarily mention it in the title. Here are some suggestions for useful keywords to use in search::WordPress customizationWordPress theme editWordPress theme customizationWordPress theme installFix WordPressWordPress designWordPress pluginFor these searches, you will get around 3000 results, that you can filter down by ca tegories, delivery time, price, seller level and language.Another way to look for gigs is to go to a sellers profile page, and see what other things they offer. This way, you might find a more adequate gig for your task. Or even a cheaper one.It will also help you get a better picture of the sellers abilities. As you might notice, the sellers dont have any resume listed, but you will grasp their skills from the type of services they offer.Heres an example of a really tuned up profile that tops on all levels. Lets go through it from top to bottom:the seller is marked Online at the moment, so you can expect a quick response from themtop rated seller badge over 30 gigs, doing custom offers, working extra fast, VIP support5-star reviews, from a total of over 400 receivedactive on Fiverr for 2.5 yearsreplies in about 1 hourhas had a successful delivery in the last hourPopular WordPress gig examplesIve selected a few examples of Fiverr WordPress customizations and gigs. They showcase som e general proposals that will cover various customization needs.Disclaimer: The way the service is described is usually straightforward and doesnt necessarily respect the English grammar. This happens because of the restricted character space and because English is not a native language for many of the sellers. If you can disregard this and play along, most sellers are able to communicate well. Expect to see things like:I will do customization wordpress themeI will do wordpress and woocommerce customizationI will fix wordpress buddypress  issue and customizationI will customize or modify your wordpress siteI will fix wordpress issues errors or problemsHeres what some of the gigs look like: As you can see, theres something for everyone on Fiverr, so if you have a more particular request, dont turn around just yet. There are people here that are focused on page builders, SEO, page speed, specific plugins and themes, images and whatnot. These are some examples of slightly more focused WordPress gigs I was surprised to stumble upon:Some things to consider before Fiverr-ingWhen working with WordPress freelancers on Fiverr, you must take into account that they will require to log in to your site in order to make the needed adjustments. This is the first thing they will ask from you.Although Fiverr has its security and trust policies, I recommend creating a new user account with limited access for sharing with your sellers. This way, you can easily delete it after the work is done. This is especially important if you are working on multiple projects and with multiple sellers. Heres our guide on how to do that.Reviews are the most important when assessing the quality of a certain gig. But the number of reviews alone does not guarantee a quality service. I have seen many sellers rating each other on jobs for the reviews sake. Better go through some of those reviews and read the written recommendations. If its Outstanding experience from top to bottom, something is pro bably fishy.Depending on the type of project that you have,  there are several metrics that can help you evaluate a gig. The average response time is going to help if you are looking to further discuss your request before placing it. A low response time means the seller is mostly online and you can clarify the exact details of the project via chat.Be careful to the fact that the response time is not a relevant indicator of the delivery time, though. Youll need to check this in the order details, where the seller specifies the deadline for submitting the order. It might be between 24 hours and 30 days, so youll need to take this into consideration. A faster delivery usually costs more.Thats pretty much it for our Fiverr WordPress customizations! This has been the first article in our new series dedicated to using Fiverr to get your website worked on. If you have any suggestions for future topics to explore or youve some interesting experiences you like to share, do so in the comment s!

Critique of John Updikes A and P Essays

Critique of John Updikes A and P Essays Critique of John Updikes A and P Paper Critique of John Updikes A and P Paper Blotted uses imagery to make a statement that critics have Ignored Updates use of the girls as legendary Sirens in his story A, that no one else has observed this collection of imagery In the story, and that this is important for the Interpretation of Sammy. Blotted acknowledges that Update has used Sammy to be a hero for the girls, but feels that critics have missed the obvious use of the girls to purposely tempt Sammy. And that Update used this Imagery to make the reader think of a mermaid, which would mean Queenly was a Siren. The Images Blotted uses to come to this conclusion begin with the market Itself, the surrounding beach, and the fact that the girls came to the market to purchase herring snacks. Blotted points out the physical attributes of Queenly that are salary to a mermaid, and points out Queen walked In a fashion that could show a resemblance too mermaid. And she also believes that the herring snacks flashing In her blue eyes, as an Image, equate her being aquatic royalty. Blotted feels Update really meant for the reader to piece hose things together and come to the conclusion that Queen was a Siren. Harriet Blotted seems to have found something in A that no other critic has noticed before, and possibly not even Update himself. Blotted seems to stretch details of this story to conform to her idea. She thinks the herring snack the girls are buying is an image that none of the critics pays attention to (273). But she fails to include that this item is what Sammy uses to decide that Queen is upper class when he pictures men standing around in ice cream coats and bow ties and the omen were standing in sandals picking up herring snacks on toothpicks (134). This Imagery was not missed, but instead it was Just a portion of a very important image used in the story, the image that Queen was upper class. Blotted then used the description that Queen walked as if she didnt walk in bare feet much (132) to say the reader should believe Update was thinking about flippers (273) instead of the easy assumption that she wears dress shoes most of the time. She also acknowledges the fact that Sammy is used as a proverbial knight in shining armor (237), but this is contradiction to Queen being a Siren.

Discuss the Moral Considerations Relevant to the Killing of Human Essay

Discuss the Moral Considerations Relevant to the Killing of Human Being - Essay Example According to those who oppose this  practice, they argue that the foetus is a human being or a person from the time of conception. Hence terminating it is the same as killing a human  being  which in itself is not  moral.  The foetus acquires  human  characteristics remarkably early in its  life  such that by the tenth week, it already has acquired a  face, arms,  and also  fingers and toes.  Also, the internal organs and the brain activity can be detected by this time. As every human has the right to life, also does the foetus. Every woman has the right to decide what should be happening in her body, but the foetus's right to life always outweighs her right to  make  a  choice  as to what happens in her body (Thompson 45). Many people who support abortion have  various  premises to support their arguments. One is pregnancy due to rape. They argue that this is reason enough to terminate the pregnancy. However, one cannot say that those who  wer e conceived  through rape have less  right  to live than others. Pregnancy due to rape results in the conception of a  baby  that also has the equal right to life just like all the other conventional methods of conception (Thompson 56). Hence Judith wonders what will happen when the mother's life  is threatened  by the pregnancy, whether it is morally relevant to  abort  the pregnancy or not. ... This means that abortion is morally permissible in some situations while in others it is not (Thompson 58). Judith's considerations on the  morality  of human  killing  are similar to the argument of Dan Brock who argued about the  morality  of voluntary, active euthanasia. Provision of  relieve  from suffering is among the many ways doctors take care of the patient`s wellbeing (Brock 30). Yet from a third-person point of view, it  is not known  whether an individual`s quality of life is extremely low that it  is burdensome  for the individual. Hence an  individual  might  regard  the continuation of his life to be unbearable because of the severity of his suffering; and  want  a doctor to end his suffering  immediately  by ending his life. This means that an individual acting on his values is morally permissible if his doing so is consistent with permitting others to the same freedom. This is  mostly  self-determination and the  value  of  equal  liberty. Hence an individual`s  choice  of  voluntary, active euthanasia is  more  consistent with permitting others the same freedom. Therefore, an individual  choice  of  voluntary, active euthanasia and the doctor's fulfilment of this request are morally permissible. However, voluntary, active euthanasia involves the deliberate killing of individuals, which is wrong. Hence voluntary, active euthanasia is also wrong. Removing life-sustaining  treatment  also amounts to deliberate killing of innocent people yet it  is thought  as morally permissible (Brock 32). This  is only done  when it is  consistent  with the well-being of the patient and his  self  determination. Hence voluntary, active euthanasia is morally permissible when it is  consistent  with the autonomy and the well-being of the patient (Brock 35). According

History of The Boston Tea Party

History of The Boston Tea Party A very historical event in U.S history happened on December 16, 1773 it would be known has The Boston Tea Party. Some American patriots dressed as Mohawk Indians boarded ships in the Boston Harbor belonging to the British East India Company and threw 342 chest of tea into the water. Their reasons for doing so were because they were protesting the tax on tea (Taxation without representation). This would also unite the colonist in the colonies more than ever before. It all started with the Townshend Acts that were passed by parliament in 1767 which were composed of four acts that was basically an attempt to assert its historical right to the colonies through strict collection provisions of revenue duties. In 1773 Parliament passed the Tea Act that was to financially help the East India Company. The Tea Act that Britain had passed added a monopoly on the tea that they were shipping to the colonies. The tea that Britain was sending over to the colonist was only to be carries by the company known as the East India Company. The company could then sell the tea in the colonies at a less than usual price that then led to colonial merchants to form an alliance with the radicals that were being led by Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty. In a few cities in the colonies like New York some tea agents even resigned or just flat out canceled their orders of tea. All of the acts expect the Tea Act were repelled after the colonist resisted them with verbal agitation, physical violence and acts of violence towards British enforcement agents. The royal governor who was Thomas Hutcherson determined to maintain the law and that the three ships that would be arriving to the Boston Harbor the Beaver, Eleanor and Dartmouth should then have the right to deposit their crates of tea. Then on December 16, 1773, a group of around 60 men (The Sons of Liberty) boarded the ships wearing their Indian disguises and dumped all 362 chest of tea into the waters of the Boston harbor. The tea they dumped was valued at around $1 million. The Boston Tea Party Played a significant role in U.S. History due to the fact that it was one of the first major events that led to the revolution, since this was the first time the colonist started fighting back. After the Boston tea party, the colonist started to become more independent and confident that they could do just fine being separated from Britain. Which then all of this events of course led to the Revolutionary War then to the signing of the most important document in United States history. Even though the Boston Tea Party didnt really instant results, but it lit a fire in the colonist hearts to give them the courage that they needed to standup to the big old bully Great Britain and fight for their right to have independence and freedom. Without this ever happening who knows maybe the colonist never would have had the courage to standup for their rights? One thing I found while researching and found it quite interesting that not one person ended up dying during all of this cause me personally I just it funny how there was one person that got injured and they thought that he was dead so they hid him under a pile of wood in a close by shop but turns out he wasnt dead. He regained consciousness a few hours after and was the only person said to be injured during the Boston Tea Party. I also seen where there was only one guy who got punished due to the fact that someone gave an anonymous tip and the guy was then stripped, tarred and feathered. After all that happened not one person ever came forward with any information. I just was always under the speculation that no one ever actually would get caught due to the fact they couldnt actually identify them with all the native American disguises on but I guess I was wrong. The Boston Harbor was also shut down for a couple weeks after all the tea was dumped into the harbor it then caused the harbor to smell. The harbor was then shut down until all 340 chest of tea was paid that was dumped during the Boston Tea Party. Another Boston Tea Party happened three months later on March 1774, 60 men disguised themselves and bored a shipped named the Fortune the slung 30 chest of tea overboard but since it was such a smaller protest, but due to it being a smaller protest it didnt end up getting all the attention since it was a much smaller protest unlike the Boston tea party that happened a few months earlier. Even though it was named the British East India Company the tea didnt actually come from India turns out that the tea they dumped came from China. The tea that was destroyed in the Boston tea party was described as Bohea. In the 18th century black tea was referred to as Bohea, it was a variety of black tea that came from the Wuyi Mountains in the Chinese pr ovince of Fujian. A popular belief was that the ships that brought the tea to were British made ships but turns out the ships were built by Americans and owned by them but the tea they were carry from London and Boston was owned by the British East India Company. Researching for this paper I found a lot of things I never even knew about the Boston Tea Party it was pretty cool to find out there was actually a second Boston Tea Party and the tea didnt actually come from India but instead it came from china. The Boston Tea Party was a major event in American History. It played a major role in Revolutionary war as it helped the colonist gain the courage that they needed to help them first began to stand up to the evil bullies over in Britain that thought that they could just control the people over in the colonies like the owned them. Without out it happening who knows maybe the colonist never would have had the courage to stand up to them? I enjoyed finding out all the neat things that I never knew and I am glad I picked the Boston Tea party. Work Cited Page Boston Tea Party Facts | Boston History. Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. Graduation Speech -- Graduation Speech, Commencement Address

I am extremely proud to be given the opportunity to address you all during this wonderful and momentous celebration. Each and every one of you deserves the greatest congratulations. You have paid a price to be here; put sweat, frustration, anger, effort, tears, blood and now triumph into your years at Napier High School. You all should be incredibly proud of yourselves. You know that you make your life whatever you want. And what you put in, you get out. Like the cross country girls' motto: "Where you find success you find sacrifice," if you give, you shall receive. But don't expect results right away. Some things take time. And don't expect your goals to come easily. Life is filled with adversity; expect obstacles at every corner. Why? Because chances are they're going to be there. But it's not what happens when you are faced with adversity, it's how you react to it. Be classy through triumph and failure and if you get knocked down or stepped on. Get up, brush yourself off and start running again - no wait, that's another story. Nevertheless, you will face obstacles; the key to movi...

Cuss Time Summary Essay

In Jill McCorkles’s article â€Å"Cuss Time† she explains, â€Å"By limiting or denying freedom of speech and expression, we take away a lot of potential.† With saying this McCorkle backs up her argument with many different personal stories and experiences. The title â€Å"Cuss Time† comes from an experience between McCorkle and her son. When McCorkle saw her son â€Å". . . silently mouthing a lot of new vocabulary while riding in the car or drawing,† she decided to let him have â€Å"Cuss Time† McCorkle explains for 5 minutes a day he was allowed to say any word he wanted, but when Cuss Time ended he wasn’t allowed to cuss till the next twenty four hour period when Cuss Time started again. Part of McCorkles’s reasoning was without cussing (Or other words society has viewed as wrong or bad) it limits our potential in how we express ourselves. Her last point that she addressed was if these words are taken away then more will be taken until it’s a dead language. â€Å"Word by word, our history will be rewritten if we don’t guard and protect it. . .). In this quote she basically says our language will be changed if we don’t stand up and take action on our Freedom of Speech. Throughout her essay McCorkle gives a strong argument to support her thesis and get her opinion across.

Religions of Mesoamerica

Religions of Mesoamerica How the Codex Fejervary represents the body as the center of the world The Codex Fejà ©rvry has represented the human body as the central point of the world using various imageries. In order to achieve the in-depth understanding of the correlation that exists between the human body and the world, certain unique elements of the tonalpohualli have been used in form of a Mesoamerican augural cycle. It has a cycle of 260 days. The world has been divided into five main parts.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Religions of Mesoamerica specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In addition, the compass points have been delineated using vivid T-shaped tress. As such, the top side has been marked as the eastern direction while the bottom side of the sculpture has been labelled as the western direction. On the other hand, the northern direction has been positioned to the left side of the figure while the right side depicts the south ern position. Carrasco (1998) notes that â€Å"the history of religions teaches us that, at one time or another, almost everything has been considered sacred† (65). This explains why the centre of the world has been taken as the central and sacred point that is being surrounded by the four directions. On the overall, the god of fire also known as Xiuhtecuhlti takes the centre stage and this is why the central part that has been surrounded by the four cardinal points is taken to be sacred. The importance in Aztec religions of the head and its connection to â€Å"tonalli† Those who believed in the sacred practices of the Aztec religions (such as the Nahuatl people) held a belief system that there were three key essences in a human being. These essences were largely responsible for life and overall wellbeing of an individual. The most significant of these three essences was the tonalli. The latter was located right at the top of the head. Hence, tonalli always resided on the head. In addition, every individual had his or her own tonalli. The fact that tonalli was located on the head meant that it controlled every fate in the life of an individual. For example, tonalli fashioned and controlled individuals in terms of who they were or what a person would be destined to perfect in life. In addition, it directed the kind of actions or activities which a person was most likely to engage in while still alive. According to Carrasco (1998), another significance of the head was the grown hair on it. As such, the energy possessed by tonalli and which was being needed by an individual on day-to-day life was extracted by the hair on the head of a person carrying the tonalli. This would symbolize getting hold of the tonalli himself. Their souls would be equally grasped in the same process. The importance of the heart and its connection to â€Å"teyolia† Teyolia was the second most important essence of an individual. It is kept in the heart of a person bec ause it is largely believed to be the actual soul of an individual that supports the breath of life. It also provides the much needed energy in the process of thinking and acting. It also rules and directs the status and genetic makeup of an individual. The feelings and subsequent response to stimuli are also governed by teyolia.Advertising Looking for term paper on religion theology? Let's see if we can help you! This implies that a person cannot remain alive if the teyolia does not provide the much needed energy. Hence, a person will die without this form of energy from teyolia. It is also pertinent to note that the human blood also contains some elements and sacred power of teyolia (Carrasco, 1998). The world centering role of the sacred mountain in Aztec religion The Nahuatl people greatly valued and revered the Serpent Mountain which was also called Coatepec. The mountain was a sacred place of worship where the gods resided. Huitzilopochtli god was also born at the Serpent Mountain and hence the location served as a very important spot where godly powers emanated from. This mountain also signified a place of sacred war bearing in mind that a fully armed and newly born god exterminated Coyolxauhqui who was his sister. This is because the latter had attempted to murder Coatlicue (their mother) in collaboration with the 400 Southerners who were her brothers. When the Mexica/Aztecs were migrating towards Aztlan which was to be their mythical homeland, they made a temporary stop at the Serpent Mountain. However, this group of people stayed longer than expected because they resided in this mountain for close to 30 years. During their stay at this mountain site, they constructed a temple. According to Carrasco (1998), â€Å"each community had a public ceremonial precinct, which o riented all human activity and influenced social life† (70). Hence, this sacred structure was built in order to give honor to Huitzilopochtli who was their patron deity. Hence, the Serpent Mountain was also a significant place of worshiping gods. The Aztec foundation myth and the world centering role of the great temple The Aztec foundation based its belief system on the patron god who was known as Huitzilopochtli. The emergence of the Aztecs boosted the significance of this god bearing in mind that he was initially of negligible value among the Nahuas. Most of the mythical foundations of the Aztec religion were based on this supernatural being especially when he was finally made the solar god thereby taking the position of Nanahuatzin. The latter was known to regularly struggle with the absence of light. It also needed to be nourished as one way of making sure that the cycle of the sun would remain uninterrupted for fifty two years. This was yet another foundational myth amon g most Mesoamerican religions such as the Aztecs. in addition, the festive seasons were specifically set aside for offering sacrifices for this god although this practice was supposed to done on a daily or regular basis. Huitzilopochtli was accorded only a single day for sacrifice although there were eighteen festive days.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Religions of Mesoamerica specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More All the generations of Nahuas lived through constant feat over the possibility of the world coming to an end. On the same note, the Aztec religion held a belief system that if Huitzilopochtli was offered human blood as the sacrifice, the termination of the world would not take place (Carrasco, 1998). The Great temple was also associated with the two gods because they were considered to be integral in the survival and overall wellbeing of the people. Hence, the temple was reserved for them. It was mythica lly believed that the unity of the two gods was supposed to be maintained because they were specifically destined to be together. Hence, the role of the Great Temple was boosted both as a place of offering sacrifices and a symbol of unity between the two gods (Carrasco, 1998). Human sacrifice in the New Fire Ceremony and the Festival for Tezcatlipoca The early Aztec civilization practiced human sacrifice as one way of appeasing the gods. However, it is important to note that this practice was also widespread among other civilizations. The Aztec religion valued a lot the 52-year cycle because it was believed that this cycle always marked the end of the word. Hence, a New Fire Ceremony was held after every 52 years coupled with a human sacrifice. This practice was meant to renew the world. It was deemed to be successful if the sun appeared the next day (Carrasco, 1998). On the other hand, Tezcatlipoca was a very influential and mighty god. He controlled and dominated human destiny, so rcery and the night. This religion also believed that people obtained all types of foods as a result of the battle that was triggered by this god. This god also performed the role of renewing the world because he could relive diseases and forgive sins. The god could also liberate a person from natural fate from life (Carrasco, 1998). Reflection From the discussion above and also based on the material that I read when compiling the task, the ancient Mesoamerican religion sheds light on the contemporary culture bearing in mind that the modern cosmopolitan society is also characterized with myriads of religious beliefs and practices. Each religious group tends to exalt its belief system similar to how it was during the ancient Mesoamerican civilizations. Although we live in a technologically advanced world, people still have strong belief in the existence of gods. The development of science has not dissipated belief systems of people. In addition, we may not be sure of the existence of gods because these are intangible beings that cannot be seen or felt.Advertising Looking for term paper on religion theology? These gods are also believed to supply mankind with hope and restoration of life. Generally, good deeds result into positive results. Therefore, the belief system of the modern has not changed remarkably. References Carrasco, D. (1998). Religions of Mesoamerica: Cosmovision and Ceremonial Centers. San Francisco: Waveland Press. On the era of reconstruction Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

On the era of reconstruction - Assignment Example 256)†, he could be thought to have chiefly referred to the tedious paths to resolutions proposed by the divided Republicans yet to no avail. What the critics had neglected to see, however, was besides the issue of unfruitful contributions in addressing Civil War, the Americans whether white or black had been revived of new hopes at the unfolding changes of the period. To Americans, the initial stages of achieving an industrial economy occurred to have established a revolutionary social order that only raised confusion especially among the working class, making them suspiciously ponder and react upon the possible outcomes of social development for the nation (Foner, 2007). It entailed a notion that such approach to spontaneous progress determines allocation of power and social security. In this regard, reformists of the period were led to conceive that potential peril exists with the significant concern that as a response to it, people of the lower class may act in tumultuous ag gression in exercising their democratic right over to suppress individual economic growth thinking that liberty of acquisition of rights to property (Foner, 2007), particularly with those who could afford, would only emphasize inequality among social divisions and thus create on appropriating amount of common interests. Progression of economic development enabled Americans to adapt to the concept and application of ‘Social Darwinism’ in their everyday living since the competition to acquire relative or higher advantage in upgrading social and economic status in American society had apparently become essential. With the rapidly growing rate of capital formation, GDP, and wages (Gilded), this condition concretized the effect of social freedom and transformation across vast critical regions of societies in U.S. in which most citizens began expressing individual or collective views by putting up labor unions that served to oppose severely improper conditions, shift schedule s, loads, and unjust wages at work. Democracy was put in wide and intense practice of articulating protest with the desire to take part in the evolving process of industrial growth. In this endeavor, they sought to be assured as well of experiencing freedom from any form of injustice or oppression of employers who were predictably consumed by the principle of capitalism or profit-orientation for use in business that required irrational gravity of labor at the expense of either skilled or unskilled workers (Gilded). Since Social Darwinism in human society advocates natural selection without interference from the government, the ensuing crisis with inequality due to the fast rate of economic growth that was rather favorable to the financially capable who consequently had been able to gain more in wealth was radically questioned and rallied against by the group class who were either receiving substandard dues or whose personal advancement was impeded. Concerns toward personal economy f urther resonated in politics that the Gilded Age or Era of Reconstruction was also witnessed to characterize corruption by the state authorities and widespread operation of fraudulent activities in the U.S.

Construction of Poverty Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Construction of Poverty - Essay Example It is irrefutable that countries have not been totally successful in the alleviation of poverty. During 2001, The World Bank reports that one-third of the world population or less than three billion people live on less than $2 a day. What is also notable is a huge income inequality in the world as the three richest people in the world are seen to have more wealth than all 600 million people thriving in the world's poorest nations. It is also reported that 50, 000 people die each day due to poverty related causes (Millennium Campaign n.d.). These, together with a lot of empirical evidences show how the world thrives in poverty. There are a lot of factors which are directly linked with poverty. In fact, there is a continuous debate on the underlying causes of poverty making it a politicized issue. Some critics argue that poverty ensues from personal choices or preferences while the other end associates poverty with factors beyond a person's choice. The last view poverty as "the result of many systemic factors" like the lack of opportunity which, is traced to the lack of education which, in turn, is due to the lack of government intervention and provision (Poverty 2006). This report will look at the causes of poverty, specifically how poverty is constructed or heightened by factors beyond personal choices and preferences. This paper will focus on how different organizations, both public and private contribute to poverty. Institutions to be looked at are the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, World Trade Organizations, and multinational corporations. This report will conclude with its findings. World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Both the World Bank and IMF are agencies which aspire to alleviate global poverty. The mission of World Bank (2006) reads "Our mission is to help developing countries and their people reach the goals by working with our partners to alleviate poverty. To do that we concentrate on building the climate for investment, jobs and sustainable growth, so that economies will grow, and by investing in and empowering poor people to participate in development." On the other hand, IMF (2006) claims that it "provides low-income countries with policy advice, technical assistance, and financial support" and that "low-income countries receive more than half of the technical assistance provided by the Fund, and financial support is extended at low interest rates and over relatively long time horizons." However, critics argue that these two institutions through their various policies cause poverty in many developing nations. These organizations have also been criticized as they promote poor countries' dependency on richer nations. This section will briefly examine the policies of these agencies which are seen to heighten, instead of alleviate, poverty. The IMF and World Bank's primary program in reducing poverty is the extension of financial assistance to impoverished nations. However, this financial aid is coupled with "neoliberal"2 ideology or agenda which is a prerequisite for the fund. Examples of these conditions are "cutbacks" or "liberalization" of the economy, opening markets for trade, minimization of government intervention, privatization which causes the reduced protection of domestic industries, currency devaluation, mounts in interest rates, "flexibility" of the labor market, elimination
